17499696_10209138932970650_586903153_oHello readers! Today I want to report on what it was like for my husband and I to run in the Bubble Run 5K this17521607_10209138935770720_1927390249_o year. Or shall I say walk? We walked pretty much the entire thing and still finished in less than an hour.

If you don’t know, a 5k is about 3.1 miles. A bubble run 5K is 3.1 miles and every so often you run through a fountain of bubbles, all colored differently.

We attended the Bubble Run 5K in Anaheim, California and it was the best experience ever. There was a great turn out, including many children and babies. The price was only $20 plus a $6 service fee and you get your participant number with safety pins, a sweat headband, a temporary tattoo, 17548751_10209138935610716_53652363_o.jpgand a t-shirt. There are also more things that you can spend extra money on, like socks, tutus, sunglasses, towels, rubber duckies, and more t-shirts but we didn’t do that.

The location of the Bubble Run was the Angel Stadium. It was great because part of the course was on the field and another part was up in the bleachers area.

We do have some videos but unfortunately I am unable to upload any at this time. When I am able to, I hope to come back and add a few. But until then, I will include a slideshow of our photos of this wonderful adventure. I know this will not be the only 5K I ever do and if you are on the fence about doing a 5K, I say do it. It’s fun and you really don’t have to run at all!

After much consideration, I decided to make a 26 before 26 list. With help from my friend Jewel and my husband, I put together a list of 26 things I want to get done in the next year. If you read my post about 25 before 25 post, then you saw that I 16930552_10208900352046276_313945688_owas unable to complete it and you might be wondering why I would do another one. Well, one thing is for sure; I am definitely giving myself more than just a couple months this time so there is a better chance of me completing all 26 items. I’m determined to do it this time! I even added pictures to represent them to my vision board, to learn more about that, click here. Here is my 26 before 26 list:

  1. Finish a 5K
  2. Run a 5K (because it’s different than just finishing one)
  3. Finish Harry Potter 1-7 (I’m still on book 5)
  4. Finish the first draft of my Work in Progress
  5. Host a themed dinner party
  6. Throw myself a fabulous birthday party
  7. Get my food handlers card
  8. Go whale watching
  9. Blog at least weekly
  10. Read 26 books
  11. Make friends in L.A.
  12. Go on a girls-only trip
  13. Take a cooking class
  14. Start a YouTube channel with Jewel
  15. Get a job I enjoy
  16. Go white water rafting
  17. Make a music video
  18. Lose 20 pounds
  19. Learn to do winged eyeliner
  20. Get a calling in the church
  21. Visit 3 temples I’ve never been to (Los Angeles, Newport Beach, and San Diego are my goals)
  22. Buy and decorate a house
  23. Reach level 10 life
  24. Do something that scares me
  25. Be positive for a week
  26. Reach 200 members in Bullet Journaling California

I talked about the difficulty of getting a job in today’s world a few posts ago. My stance has not changed and I am still frustrated that people won’t give me a chance but I have a new look at it. I have been turned down by 11 jobs in the last month and it was rejectiondisheartening but I have had a realization: the rejection now is preparing me for the rejection I will, inevitably, get from publishers. Just think about how many times J.K. Rowling was turned down; the number is 9 or 12 depending on where you get your information. Kevin Anderson & Associates gives us a list of  Ten Famous Books Rejected By Publishers. I know that I, too, will have my share of rejection when I am ready to get published but I won’t give up, just like J.K. Rowling.

I know this is short but I want all of my readers to know that I believe in you. I don’t know you but I know that you can do it. Just today I jogged/walked 2 miles in 37 minutes. I never thought I coulddo-it do that. In high school I made it a point to walk as slow as I could while doing the mile run. Heck, Redheaded Owl and I took the entire class period to walk the mile in 7th grade. I promise you that you CAN do anything you put your mind to. It won’t be easy but is anything really easy? It will, however, be worth it in the end. And when you look back at ow hard you pushed and how far you came, you will be proud.

Have you ever heard someone say or even been the one to say any of these words: “I’m not
a runner.” “I hate running.” “I just can’t run.” Well, then you’re like a lot of other people. Even Hal Elrod told himself he wasn’t a runner but just started running one day because he had tried so many other things. I am one of those people. And as crazy as it is, for me to hate running, I just signed up for a 5K and it’s happening next month. I know that I am going to have to push myself for the next 7-ish weeks but I also know that it’s possible. The 5K that I signed up for is the Bubble Run. One of my friends got me to do it with her and my husband volunteerruned to do it with us. I’m excited but also nervous. If you want to come watch, it’s at the Angels Stadium. There are 2 races and we are in the 9:00am race.

So, how does one prepare for a 5K when they have always hated running? I’m glad you asked. There are actually a lot of tips on Pinterest. Sadly, the site is down so I am unable to link them to you right now but there are also plenty of tips when you put “couch to 5K” in Google. In my search, I even found an app for Apple and Android phones called Couch to 5K. I have a Samsung so I’m glad it’s not exclusive to Apple, as I’m sure some Apple users are glad it isn’t exclusive to us either.

Another really cool thing I found in my search is this couch-to-5k PDF, (at this link). For this particular training, you want you allow yourself 9 weeks but almost everyone has a different time frame.

Lastly, another helpful site for beginners might be found here. Running For beginners is a great site for anyone. It has so many great resources and training tips, even for me.
