“In search of my mother’s garden, I found my own.” -Alice Walker Read

It’s hard to write today. I have been sick in bed all weekend. But I want all of my readers to know one thing, I am working on being GDPR compliant. I know that I may not reside in the EU but it still affects me so. Unfortunately, many of the things that I can use to help make my blog GDPR compliant cost money. But if you start seeing pop ups, that is why. I’m hoping WordPress will come out with new things, like you may have noticed at the bottom of your screen. Until then, I hope I am at least better than before.

momAnyway, Yesterday was Mother’s Day. So I wanted to do a little tribute to many of the women who changed my life. There are so many women who have had a hand in making me who I am. Many of them don’t even realize how much. Mother’s Day isn’t about celebrating the women who have birthed you, or even women who only have kids. No. It’s a woman’s holiday, to show your appreciation for all that the women in your life have done for you. If it was only a day for people who physically birthed you, many people would never celebrated it.

grandmaI have been blessed with many wonderful women in my life who have been there for me, no matter what. There are too many to make a list but I will try to include photos of everyone.

As many of you know, I had a rough start in life and at the age of 7 I went from living with my mom to living with my grandparents. I spent some time at aunts and uncles homes but mostly with my janellegrandparents until I was 17, when they passed. I went back with aunts and uncles. I have been in and out of homes, my life has change a million times, but no matter what, I am cared for and loved. From family, to friends. From beds and couches in various cities and states. I know that no matter what, I will always have somewhere to go and I am grateful to know that.

I can never thank these women enough but I hope they know how much I love and appreciate them. Below I have a slide show of many of the women who changed my life as several videos to for you as well.

As always, thank you for visiting my blog. I hope you continue to come back each week. Comment below with how you show the women in your life that you appreciate them.

“There’s something about a holiday that isn’t all about how much money you spend.” -Hilarie Burton

I know it’s the day after Christmas but I still want to wish everyone happy holidays. I hope you got just what you hoped for.

As for me, I bought myself a computer game called Cattails. If you haven’t heard of it, you get to play as a cat and go throughout life. It’s really cool! I even made a Facebook group for it because it’s a new game and I figured that since all the other games I play have groups and this one doesn’t, I’d do it. Visit and join here.

So far I’m in the beginning of winter of year one and I love it! It was just released at the beginning of the month so I’m really excited that I have a copy. If you want to check it out steam is having a sale right now. Visit their website here to purchase. They also have their own official site here.

Anyway, that’s all from me this holiday. Have a great week and as always, thank you for checking out my blog. Comment below with how your holiday went.

“This fire that we call Loving is too strong for human minds. But just right for human souls.” -Aberjhani

My first holiday post on my blog in 2013 was for Valentine’s Day and I haven’t done one for the same holiday since then. I know, terrible. It may not change every year but it does happen every year. So, I decided to be a bit of research as to why we celebrate this holiday and what I found was interesting.

In order to learn more I turned to Google. I found an article titled Valentine’s Day History as well as a video called Bet You Didn’t know: Valentine’s Day. One thing I noticed in both the article and the video was that it isn’t completely clear as to which St. Valentine we are celebrating. There were three and they all appear to have been put to death on February 14. First you have the Priest who was put to death for performing illegal marriages, in that time young men were not allowed to get married but we supposed to be soldiers instead. Another was a bishop in Terni, and the third St. Valentine, there is almost nothing known about him or his life, except that he met his end in Africa.

Growing up I was told that Valentine’s day originated by a man who was an abusive murderer of women and I always thought it was ironic. In my research, that was proven wrong with every link I sought out. According to the above article and video, it started out as a celebration of fertility. The celebration changed several times and by the 15th century greeting cards were exchanged. Now, about 1 billion cards are given out each Valentine’s Day all around the world. Considering the fact that there are about 7 billion people in the world and you take away those who live in poor countries then 1 billion people exchanging cards is a ton of paper.

“In this town we call home Everyone hail to the pumpkin song” -Nightmare Before Christmas

If you know me, you should know what my number one favorite holiday is. Yes, HALLOWEEN! Some people may not like the holiday for their own personal reasons but I absolutely love it. The dressing up, the candy, the decorating, the haunted houses, it’s all wonderful. Last year we had a big Halloween party and all of our close friends came, we had trick-or-treaters coming to our door for a few hours, so much was going on. This year, we did nothing. We bought some candy, hoping someone would stop by but they didn’t. Oh well, more for me.

Anyway, I saw a meme last night that made me sad. Halloween may be my number one holiday but as soon as it’s November, I start counting down to my second favorite holiday: Thanksgiving.

You thought I was going to say Christmas, didn’t you? Honestly, Christmas isn’t even my top five. But this meme made meno pretty sad because every year, people skip over Thanksgiving. Yes, they celebrate it but all they are really worried about is Christmas. I just don’t understand why such an amazing day gets skipped over every year. Stores advertise Christmas for 6 months of the year, yes there may be a small isle or two of Thanksgiving int he craft stores but for the most part they got from Halloween to BAM! Christmas the next day. Just like Disney does in this video. I understand that it’s a big holiday but it’s overrated. It’s all about buy, buy, buy. I’m sick of it and if it didn’t mean so much to my husband and his family, I would probably boycott Christmas altogether because of how sick I am over the over advertisement of Christmas.  It’s great that there is a holiday somewhat dedicated to the birth of Jesus Christ but honestly, it’s so overdone with presents and Santa Clause that He gets forgotten. I’d rather celebrate Him another way and separate it all. Yes, giving gifts to those you love is great but there’s just so much pressure on what to get, how much to spend, where to buy, what will they really like, etc. I’m just over it, I was over it in August. Yes, there was Christmas stuff out in August.

Anyway, this is why Thanksgiving is so wonderful. Yes, there may be pressure on the people cooking the wonderful dinner but if you divide it up, no one gets overly stressed. It’s a holiday all about coming together, you don’t have to give anyone anything, you don’t have to spend millions on decorations just so your house will look as good as the neighbor. It’s not about competition, it’s about being thankful.

I apologize if I rambled, I just wish there was less Christmas and more of other holidays. Sometimes Christmas overruns everything else in life. Please, feel free to share what your favorite holiday is in the comments.
