“Growing up, I would watch a movie on video and would go to the back of the VHS and locate the address for Universal Pictures or MGM or whatever. I’d write to the studios asking them if I could be in a movie. They never wrote me back.” -Garrett Hedlund

From now on, my monthly updates on Universal Studios Hollywood will be a little different. I got a job there so I can tell you first hand about crowds, since I will be dealing with them. However, I will not see the crowds for rides or food, as I am in retail, but I can let you know how crowded each month is and what I hear about the lines from guests.

First of all, I want to let you know that if you are riding Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and it stops, it could very well be because someone in a wheelchair is getting on. It doesn’t mean that it broke down, even though the announcement says there may be a difficulty. I have guests getting upset about it quite often and I just wanted to clear the air. Even if you don’t personally see the person in the wheelchair, it doesn’t mean they aren’t there. They don’t always use the same line as you, as there is an elevator for them.

Now, the crowds in May were certainly picking up but we, thankfully, not too bad. I was able to attend the park as a guest a couple of times in the month and experience new things, of which I will be reporting on in this post. The longest line in the park was for Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, which was a little over an hour-long. FYI, the easiest way to see wait times is to download the mobile app, it gives you wait times for every attraction.

20138026_1703909299917461_186553849_oOne new thing that I did was the Walking Dead attraction. For me, it was a lot less scary than I was expecting. It was still really well done and fun, though. I actually ended up going through it twice in one day, with different people. I love how everything is set up in the line queue, it really sucks you into the actual world.

20148857_1703909546584103_819448963_oNext, we road on the Tram, which is always fun. They had new surprises waiting for us, which is always a great way to keep season pass holder interested. I won’t spoil the fun for you so I didn’t take any pictures of it. But, I can tell you that the other stuff, like King Kong and Fast and Furious are still there and still the main thing that attracts people to it.

20138003_1703909533250771_1951695529_oThis month I finally had the opportunity to eat at the Three Broomsticks. If you haven’t been, I highly recommend it. I got the rib plate with a salad and it was so good. It makes my mouth water just looking at the picture. The sides were corn on the cob and potatoes, both of which were excellent. I honestly can’t wait to go again.

If you were there in May and have any extra tips in information, please leave a comment below. I hope you had a fun time reading my post this month and hope that you will come again next month.

“When I was a little kid – and even still – I loved magic tricks. When I saw how movies got made – at least had a glimpse when I went on the Universal Studios tour with my grandfather, I remember feeling like this was another means by which I could do magic.” -J. J. Abrams

For my 25th birthday, my husband gifted me with Universal Studios Hollywood season 20170211_144221passes and my goal is to make a summary of each month. Today I am just sharing with you my plans for this project because I want to know what you, my readers, would like to know about. I have the ability to go every month for a year and I plan on making it worth my while, as well as yours. If there is a specific food you would like me to try, comment below (I would also hope that you would include where to get it and, if possible, the price, so that other readers can try it as well). If there’s a ride or show you want me to check out, I’d be glad to go to it. Keep in mind that I’ve been on all of them, though.

As an introduction to this segment, I would like to give a little more information on the beloved park, so if you’re someone who knows all about the park share your thoughts. If you know nothing about the park, you’re about to learn.

Universal Studios Hollywood opened up on July 15, 1964 (meaning that it is 53 this year). In a simple search on the official website, I was taken to the About Universal page. On this page it states the following:

Entertainment is Universal
Universal was founded in 1912 by motion picture visionary Carl Laemmle, a German immigrant who had a dream of building a world of entertainment in Southern California. On March 15th, 1915 Mr. Laemmle’s dream was realized with the opening of Universal Studios Hollywood. On that day, Laemmle issued a press release that predicted not only the future of Universal Pictures but of the global entertainment company that would grow out of the movie studio.

“…just think what this would mean…to see the inner workings of the biggest moving picture plant in the wide, wide world. A whole city where everyone is engaged in the making of motion pictures, a fairyland where the craziest things in the world happen. A place to think about and talk about for the rest of your days!

From the very beginning, Laemmle invited the public on to the property to watch silent films being made. In 1964 the Universal Studio Tour formally opened, allowing visitors from around the world the rare opportunity to experience movie-making magic first hand. In the decades since the Studio Tour tram first drove visitors through the back lot, Universal Studios Hollywood has grown to become a world-class destination.

Performers and behind the scenes personnel at Universal Studios Hollywood play a major role in bringing that magic to life for our guests; whether it’s doing a 50’ high fall on fire in Waterworld, teaching audiences the behind the scenes secrets of movie-making at Special Effects Stage or making a child’s dream of meeting their favorite animated character come true. Universal truly is the Entertainment Capital of LA!

It’s it fun to get a little background on a favorite park? I love getting to know the places that I frequent. There have been many changes to the park since it opened up 53 years ago and there will be many more changes in the next 53 years. For a list of all the those changes visit this list on Wikipedia or this article, Past Attractions at the theme park. What ride were you sad to see go? What ride would you be happy to see go now? Or even sad to see go now?

To close this post, I am including a few articles I found in my research that might interest you. I hope you enjoyed learning about Universal Studios Hollywood with me and as always, thank you for stopping by. Ok, this post is about my obsession: Harry Potter. Have you ever read any of the books? There are seven: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s StoneHarry Potter and the Chamber of SecretsHarry Potter and the Prisoner of AzkabanHarry Potter and the Goblet of FireHarry Potter and the Order of the PhoenixHarry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Have you seen any of the movies? There are eight…Deathly Hallows is split into two movies: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. I have read the first 3 books all the way through and the fourth book about half way through. I have seen all of the movies though and this causes some people to say that I am “not a true fan” just because I have only seen the movies. So what if I’ve only seen the movies. There are different kinds of Harry Potter fans. I am obsessed with the series and when I come home, I will try to finish reading the books. I own five or six of them so getting them is no problem. I have even decided that when I have kids I will have a Harry Potter themed baby shower, I even have stuff saved on my pinterest account.

Little onsies for babies: Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, And Grifindor.

Then, when my kids get to the age of 11 I will give them each a Hogwarts acceptance letter, like the one I uploaded here. And I will make their birthday party “Hogwarts themed.” People have told me that this is mean because it will break their hearts to find out that it’s not real, my kids will know the difference between fantasy and reality I’m sure so it won’t be that bad, sheesh.

The acceptance letter.

There is a website for those who enjoy Harry Potter whether you are a movie fan, a book fan, or both. It is Pottermore . On this site, you go through the whole series and you get to act as if YOU are a student going to Hogwarts. You get a wand, sorted into one of the four houses, and whatever else is needed. Certain chapters get unlocked at a time, like right now you can only go up to the third book, seventh chapter. I was sorted into Hufflepuff and my wand had a unicorn center. my wandpuff  It’s pretty awesome! I actually just recently made my own wand with my friend Michaela. We are total Potterheads, which is the term you use when talking about someone in the fandom. Urban dictionary defines  Potterhead as “Amazingly cool people who are obsessed with Harry Potter.”

Anyway, I just wanted to share my wonderful thoughts on Harry Potter with the world. Everyone should try out Pottermore! You never know what you will find. If you have or make an account, post your username on here in the comments or just add me, my username is MidnightStone16666. I hope one day that the next generation can enjoy the love of the series just as I and people in my generation have. I love the message of the books, and before you tell your kids that it is an inappropriate book, actually read it first. There is no “dark magic” or something that is going to brainwash your child. It’s just a fiction book, let them enjoy their imagination! Well, I’ll post another post before I leave! Love you all, even if I don’t know you. Have a wonderful day. And yes, I am an American for those of you who want to argue that the title of the fist book, movie is wrong. I know that in other countries it is something else. Here in the USA, it is what I posted. Thank you for reading!

The wand that I made. It's dark green and pink with little diamonds on the handle. The little ball at the top, that's the handle. It's a purple and green bead.
